Charly Ewing (Played for Nijmegen during 1970-1973)
I was lucky to play for Nijmegen from 1970 to 1973. My first year was the year we won second division and were promoted to first division for the 1971 season. Alex Andjelic was the coach and Ben Smulders was our captain. I was fortunate to live with the Wylemans family for 2 years and the de Haas family for a year. Heerenveen and Tilburg were the teams we played hardest against. Tilburg won the championship every year that I was in Nijmegen. The best player with Nijmegen when I was there was Gary Lisle. He is teaching here in Ontario and is married and has a family. Before coming to Nijmegen I played with and against Rick Dudley who is now coaching Florida. The toughest player I played against was Bob Dailey of the Philadelphia Flyers when he was a junior. He was a big guy.
I was married for 22 years and have 4 kids, 2 girls and 2 boys. I re-married some years ago and am living in Toronto. I have been a manager of 1 of the Toronto Library branches for the past 30 years. I had always hoped to return to Nijmegen to visit but never have been able to do so. I still manage to play old-timer hockey (35 years and up) and go to a few tournaments each year. It would be great if a reunion could take place for the teams from 1970 to 1973. If Frank, Mark, Ben, Alex, Harry or others from those teams read this please forward an e-mail. Best to you all.
